Central Los Angeles : Jobs Program Points to Humble Starts
Los Angeles Mayor Richard Riordan worked on the assembly line at a 7-Up bottling plant; RLA Chairwoman Linda Griego wrapped bread in a bakery, and Los Angeles City Councilman Mike Hernandez delivered newspapers.
L.A. Youth at Work, a new jobs program for Los Angeles teen-agers, points out the humble first jobs of prominent Angelenos in a brochure designed to make area businesses consider the benefits of providing jobs for area youth. In addition to giving a kid a break, the brochure suggests, the business might be setting a future leader on the path to success.
To jump-start the program, eight Los Angeles businesses donated $10,000 each for marketing and training.
