OXNARD : Charges Filed Against City Building Official

Share

After a yearlong investigation, the district attorney has charged an Oxnard city building plan checker with allegedly taking money from a developer to put that builder’s plans ahead of others.

Investigators said Milton Huertas was supposed to check project plans on a first-come, first-served basis.

In addition, investigators say that Huertas, 40, approved projects in which either he or his wife had drafted the plans.

Huertas is scheduled to be arraigned July 19.

Each of the violations is a misdemeanor that carries a maximum sentence of six months in Ventura County Jail and a fine of up to $10,000, said Rebecca Riley, a spokeswoman for the district attorney’s office.

Huertas has worked for the city of Oxnard since 1989, said Bruce Dandy, the city’s manager of personnel. He is the only building plan checker for the city, Dandy said.
