Fullerton : College Board to Fill the Trustee Vacancy
Trustees of the North Orange County Community College District have decided to fill board member Barbara G. Hammerman’s seat by appointment, rather than hold a special election.
Hammerman has resigned from her post, effective Aug. 23, to move to New York, where she will work on expanding a national project she created that raises funds and develops resources for endowment programs.
The district now plans to solicit applications from the public and interview candidates to replace Hammerman, whose term ends in November, 1996.
Board President Nilane A. Lee said the trustees decided to fill the position by appointment to save the cost of a special election, estimated at $107,000.
A special election “would be a foolish expenditure of money,” Lee said.
