Cal State Northridge Police Chief Edward Harrison was among African American law enforcement leaders honored by Recycling Black Dollars, a community-based business organization, at a recent luncheon.

“We are extremely proud of the work Chief Harrison has done on this campus,” said CSUN President Blenda J. Wilson in a prepared statement. “This award is a testament to his 20 years of police experience and personal dedication to excellence.”

Harrison was chosen for the award because of his active participation in community organizations, as well as his leadership ability and professionalism, said Theresa Williams, a Recycling Black Dollars member who coordinated the luncheon.

“We are thanking these individuals for moving up through the ranks and for continuing a job well done,” Williams added.

Harrison, 46, became CSUN’s police chief last August. He began his career in the California State University system as a police officer at Cal State Long Beach, where he later became a sergeant. He also has served as a lieutenant and, later, as director of public safety at Cal State San Bernardino.

Recycling Black Dollars states that its goal is to strengthen and support the Los Angeles business community.
