El Salvador Suspends Coffee Exports: The country will join other Latin American nations in temporarily suspending exports in a bid shore up plunging prices. El Salvador has lost $40 million in the past five weeks because of low prices, said Ruben Pineda, executive director of the National Coffee Council. Costa Rica, Honduras, Nicaragua and Colombia stopped coffee exports after international prices dropped from $180 per 106-pound bag in May to $130 last week. Coffee exports earned $270.9 million for El Salvador last year.
