GM Offering Early Retirements to Some White-Collar Workers: General Motors Corp. said it has begun a new round of early-retirement offers to executives and other salaried workers. The programs are open only to employees selected by managers as part of the company’s campaign to reduce the size of its work force, spokesman Chuck Licari said. The number of jobs eliminated in the program will depend on how many people take the offers; the new retirement offers are aimed only at employees in the United States. To qualify for the programs, which are being offered through Sept. 1, a salaried employee must be at least 55 but younger than 62 by Dec. 31 and have at least 10 years of credited service. Executives who qualify must be at least 53 but younger than 62, with at least 30 years of service; have their age and years of service add up to at least 85, or be at least 60 with 10 years of service.
