Europe to Seek New U.S. Trade Accords: The European Union, its relations with the United States strained by trade disputes, has begun efforts to forge new transatlantic ties. Spanish officials said this week that a top priority of their six-month EU presidency, which began Saturday, is to seek a trade accord with the United States. “We are hopeful that during the presidency there will be a declaration,” Prime Minister Felipe Gonzalez told a news conference as he launched Madrid’s term in the presidency.
