ANAHEIM : Career Center to Serve Dislocated Workers

Share

A career center to serve dislocated workers will be established by the city’s Private Industry Council using a $600,000 job training grant from the state Employment Development Department.

Among the services to be available at the center will be computerized job search assistance, resume preparation, a resource library, career and personal counseling, interview practice, and telephone and Internet contact with employers.

“We’re doing some of the services now,” said Marge Pritchard, manager of employment and job training for the city. “But these funds will allow us to expand the services.”

In addition to helping individuals to seek jobs, the center will be available to companies that are either searching for personnel or are downsizing.

“If they’re on the upswing,” Pritchard said, “then they can come to us, and we can screen for them and even put a customized training program together for that employer.

“We can also assist employers if they have to cut back on their work force,” she said, by arranging retraining for laid-off workers.

The center is tentatively scheduled to open in early January at the Woodbridge Building, 50 S. Anaheim Blvd.
