Lockheed Martin to Build Mobile Phone System: The Bethesda, Md.-based aerospace concern announced it has signed a $650-million contract to create the regional communications system for Asia Cellular Satellite. The system will provide cellular service for pagers, telephones and facsimile machines throughout Southeast Asia, India, China, Indonesia and the Philippines, the company said. The system is set to be operating by 1998. Lockheed Martin’s Astro Space facility in East Windsor, N.J., will immediately begin building two satellites for the system.
