Robert M. Greber, 57, has been elected chairman and chief executive of the Pacific Stock Exchange and will succeed current Chief Executive Leopold Korins on Jan. 25.

Greber has been president and chief operating officer of the exchange since 1992; he joined it in 1990 as executive vice president of marketing and strategic planning.

“Bob isn’t simply the logical candidate for this job, he’s the best candidate,” Korins said Wednesday as the board of governors announced Greber’s election.

Greber’s varied career began in the securities industry in 1958 when he joined Merrill Lynch, Pierce, Fenner & Smith, where he rose to the rank of vice president and regional manager for institutional sales.

In 1979, Greber became president and chief executive of LucasFilm Ltd., the parent of George Lucas’ film development empire. Greber left there in 1984 and was named president and chief executive of Diagnostic Networks Inc., a medical technology services firm. Just before joining the exchange, Greber had been a partner in the consulting firm of Leon A. Farley Associates in San Francisco.

Korins said six years “is plenty” on a job that he initially took with a two-year contract.
