WORLD IN BRIEF : CANADA : Mexico’s Ex-Leader Arrives for Visit
Former Mexican President Carlos Salinas de Gortari, effectively forced into exile in March, has turned up in Canada after a stay in the United States. Salinas entered Canada in mid-June with permission to remain for six months. Mexican President Ernesto Zedillo reportedly asked Salinas to leave Mexico after publicly squabbling with the man he replaced in December. The former president had been staying near Boston. His brother, Raul Salinas de Gortari, has been charged with the murder last year of the secretary general of the ruling party.
