Chrysler Delays Minivan Latch Replacement: Complications stemming from the addition of solenoid mechanisms to the replacement program, as well as more recent information about the availability of new latches, prompted the Highland Park, Mich.-based auto maker to extend the replacement notification date until September, Chrysler Corp. spokesman Rick Deneau said. Concerned over the three-month delay, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s Office of Defects Investigation has asked the No. 3 U.S. auto maker for more information. Chrysler said in March that it would voluntarily replace the latches on 5 million 1984-95 minivans. An NHTSA investigation found that 28 people died from accidents in which the latches are suspected to have failed.
