Wrong Battle Date Puts Postcard in Demand

The Postal Service has printed the wrong year of a Civil War battle on 100,000 commemorative postcards, turning them into hot-selling collectors’ items.

The postcard lists the Battle of Chancellorsville, Va., as 1883 instead of 1863. The postcard is included in a $7.95 set of 20 postcards depicting Civil War battles.

The sets went on sale last week, and the Postal Service does not plan to correct them because it would cost too much, said Robin Wright, a spokesman for the U.S. Postal Service.
