Prosecutors Find No Evidence of Misconduct by Svorinich

The district attorney’s office announced Tuesday that it has found no credible evidence of illegal political contributions or other criminal misconduct by Los Angeles City Councilman Rudy Svorinich.

“During our investigation, we reviewed all claims of misconduct allegedly committed by Mr. Svorinich, subpoenaed and examined his business and personal bank accounts as well as governmental files and records, and contacted percipient witnesses to Mr. Svorinich’s business dealings with the city of Los Angeles,” Deputy Dist Atty. Gail Ehrilich wrote in a one-page letter to Svorinich’s attorney, Skip Miller.

“After a thorough examination of all the facts and evidence, we conclude that there is insufficient credible evidence of felony criminal conduct by Councilman Svorinich to justify further investigation of these allegations,” the letter said. The allegations were made by former staffers.

Ehrlich and others in the district attorney’s office declined to publicly identify the matters, although one source familiar with the investigation said: “If we thought it was criminal [activity], that is not what we would have done.”

Neither Svorinich nor his attorney could be reached for comment late Tuesday.
