Sow: Heat-tolerant annual herbs; also Asian greens (except in deserts); corn (except in low desert and mountains).
Plant: Leaf celery (except in deserts). Also celeriac (except in deserts and mountains).
Harvest: Common beans, cucumbers, eggplant, herbs, New Zealand spinach, peppers, radishes, shallot greens, summer squash, tomatillos/tomatoes. Also Asian greens, cabbage, green onions, potatoes, salad greens (except in low desert); okra (except in high mountains); broccoli, carrots, chard (except in deserts); leafy celery, corn (except in low desert and mountains); melons/watermelons (except on coast and in mountains). COASTAL CLIMATES
Sow: All beans but favas/limas, beets, cauliflower, chard, green onions, radishes, salad greens.
Harvest: Lima beans, beets, Brussels sprouts, collards/kale, green garlic, all peas, strawberries. LOW DESERT
Sow: Gourds/winter squash, melons. HIGH DESERT
Sow: Cucumbers.
Harvest: Celeriac/leaf celery. INTERIOR CLIMATES
(Where fuchsias won’t grow)
Sow: Summer squash.
Harvest: Cowpeas/horticultural beans, celeriac/leaf celery, all onions.
(Where fuchsias grow fairly well)
Sow: All beans but favas/limas, beets, carrots.
Plant: Broccoli, cauliflower, tomatillos/tomatoes.
Harvest: All of non-fuchsia interior except celeriac, plus salsify/scorzonera. MOUNTAINS
6,000 feet and above:
Sow: Broccoli, carrots, New Zealand spinach, green onions, peas, radishes, salad greens, salsify/scorzonera, spinach, turnips.
Plant: Small tomatoes.
Harvest: Brussels sprouts, collards/kale, leeks, all peas, onions, potatoes, spinach, turnips. MOUNTAINS
Below 6,000 feet:
Sow: All of high mountains except peas plus common beans, beets, cabbage, cauliflower.
Plant: Tomatoes/tomatillos.
Harvest: All of high mountains. KEY
Asian greens: Non-heading Chinese cabbage, Chinese kale, garland chrysanthemum, komatsuna (mustard spinach), mizuna , pak choi , rosette pak choi .
When seeds can be sown, seedlings of the same crop can be planted. All crops can be grown in containers.
