Update : LAGUNA BEACH : Tree Trimming Issue Sent to Planners
A group of residents has lobbied the City Council for an ordinance that would allow the city to remove or trim trees on private property if the trees pose a fire hazard or impair views.
As a result, the council has forwarded the issue to the city Planning Commission asking staff to determine whether such an ordinance is needed and, if so, to draw one up.
In the meantime, council members have expressed sympathy for residents who say their inconsiderate neighbors won’t trim or remove offending trees.
“I’m outraged that people are so rude and not responsive to overtures,” Mayor Kathleen Blackburn said. “That’s when government has to step in and see what we can do about it.”
The council unanimously endorsed the following policy statement: “The existing situation results in safety and view concerns the City Council finds unacceptable.”
