Westcorp: The Irvine financial services holding company for Western Financial Savings Bank reported net income of $8 million, or 32 cents a share, for the second quarter, compared with $4.1 million, or 17 cents a share, a year earlier. First-half profit rose 83% to $14.6 million, or 59 cents a share, from $8 million, or 33 cents a share. Total assets as of June 30 were $2.9 billion, 7% higher than the $2.7 billion recorded at the same time last year.

Separately, WFS Financial Inc., the auto finance subsidiary of Western Financial Savings Bank, said it filed an amended registration statement with the Securities and Exchange Commission to increase the number of shares for its proposed initial public offering of common stock to 4 million from 3.8 million and to increase the anticipated price from a range of $12 to $14 per share to $13 to $15 per share. The shares to be offered will represent approximately 17.6% of the outstanding shares.
