A Superior Court jury has decided that the city of Long Beach must pay $10 million to a woman who was left paralyzed from the injuries she suffered in a car accident resulting from a police chase.

Cindy Tomlinson, 27, a Huntington Beach resident and former preschool teacher, has been unable to speak or move her arms or legs since the 1992 accident, said her lawyer, Dennis Elber.

The lawyer called the judgment, delivered Monday, conservative, saying it might be too little to provide the lifetime of care Tomlinson will need.

Assistant City Atty. Robert Shannon said the city would consider whether to appeal the judgment.

Tomlinson was a passenger in a car that was hit head-on by a suspect fleeing Long Beach police officers.

The jury also found Tomlinson partly at fault for her injuries for not wearing a seat belt.
