WESTWARD HO: Some businesses have been moving out of Orange County, many moving out of state. But Pan Pacific Hotels and Resorts is packing up its headquarters in Costa Mesa this summer and leaving the country. Its 25 employees will begin working out of Singapore Aug. 1. . . . Nothing against Orange County, says a spokeswoman, but most of its 18 hotels are in Asia. Its only local hotel is in Anaheim, next to the Disneyland Hotel.

FIRING LINE: At Borders Books and Music in Mission Viejo, you can browse, hear live music and drink espresso while your children listen to story time. But the soft mood changes swiftly tonight at 6:30, when it plays host to highly controversial gun advocate Wayne LaPierre. He’s chief executive officer of the National Rifle Assn. and has a new book he’ll sign: “Guns, Crime and Freedom.” . . . Borders spokeswoman Ruth Frenkel chuckles at the contrast: “We’re pretty liberal, but we recognize there are other viewpoints in Orange County.”

NEW LION KING? It will be kitty litter by the truckload this weekend at the Anaheim Convention Center. The annual International Cat Show is back, with more than 3,000 of the most beautiful--and occasionally the weirdest-looking--felines ever put under one humongous roof. One of the stars: “La Coupe de Lion,” the cat with the lion mane and poodle body. . . . Says the cat show’s longtime spokeswoman, Elinor Silverman of New York: “If it exists in catdom, it will be at the show.”

HOW CAN YOU LOSE? Saturday’s indoor soccer game between the Splash and the Houston Hotshots is Guaranteed Victory Night. If the Splash doesn’t win, every fan in attendance will get a free general admission ticket to the team’s next home game, July 27 against Arizona. . . . “We’re so confident in our team and our product,” General Manager Tim Ryan says, “that we’re willing to back it up at the box office.” Note: The Splash are in first place, but only 1-2 at home this season.
