CAMARILLO : Study to Proceed for 189-Home Project

Share

Ventura County supervisors have given a developer approval to move forward with an environmental study for a 189-home project in an unincorporated area north of Camarillo.

The board voted 3 to 2 Tuesday to approve the request by Knightsbridge Holdings Inc. Supervisors Maggie Kildee and Susan Lacey cast dissenting votes, saying the project would result in the loss of 195 acres of farmland.

About a dozen neighbors of the project also voiced objections during the hearing. They complained that it would increase traffic along an already busy section of California 118 and place a heavy burden on schools and on water supplies.

The Knightsbridge development would be built adjacent to a 140-home subdivision on property located southeast of Donlon and McBean roads in the Las Posas Valley. It would also require the county to approve a zone change for the land, which is currently zoned exclusively for agriculture.

Although they allowed the environmental study, Supervisor Judy Mikels and John Flynn said the vote does not necessarily mean the project will be approved.
