Harry Mercado Cobos Sr., a lifelong Ventura County resident and grandfather of eight, died during an asthma attack this week. He was 59.
Cobos was born Feb. 2, 1936, in Saticoy. He attended Holy Cross High School in Ventura before joining the U.S. Army in 1956. Cobos manufactured aircraft parts for Teleflex Control Systems in Oxnard for 17 years. He lived with his daughter, Brenda Lee Cobos of Oxnard, who said her father loved the Ventura County lifestyle.
“We wanted to move somewhere where the air would make him better,” she said. “But he would never leave.”
In his younger days, Cobos was an avid bowler. Later, he enjoyed watching baseball, barbecuing and doting on his grandchildren.
“He always had time for all of us,” Brenda Cobos said. “Especially his grandchildren.”
In addition to Brenda, Cobos is survived by his son, Harry Cobos Jr. of Santa Paula; his brother, Bernard Cobos of Ventura; his sisters, Carmen Cowin of Arizona and Gloria Cobos of Ventura, and eight grandchildren.
Funeral arrangements are being handled by Joseph P. Reardon Funeral Home in Ventura.
