Judge Reverses Order That Pair Must Marry

CINCINNATI — A judge on Thursday reversed his own order that a man who had hit his girlfriend must marry her.
Hamilton County Municipal Judge Albert Mestemaker said he had issued three similar orders in the last two years and had imposed the condition on Scott Hancock, 26, of suburban Addyston because Hancock and his girlfriend had said they eventually planned to marry.
But his latest order, a condition of the defendant’s nine-month probation, had stirred a furor among women’s organizations.
