Share

The Ventura Freeway was shut down briefly Friday afternoon as police pursued two men who robbed a Somis grocery store owner at gunpoint as he left a Thousand Oaks bank with operating cash for the weekend, authorities said.

Casiedo Quinones, 62, was leaving Los Robles Bank at 33 Thousand Oaks Blvd. about 5:30 p.m. when the robber pointed a handgun at him and demanded money. Quinones owns the Somis Market.

The robber fled in a red Chevrolet pickup driven by an accomplice, Ventura County sheriff’s deputies said. The deputies did not disclose how much money was taken.

An employee accompanying Quinones gave chase in his car but lost sight of the pickup as it sped north on the Ventura Freeway.

Traffic on the freeway was stopped briefly after police began pursuing a pickup truck matching the description of the getaway vehicle. But authorities discovered the occupants had nothing to do with the robbery.

Authorities are offering up to a $1,000 reward for information leading to the arrest of the robber and his accomplice. Witnesses are asked to call 494-8255.
