In a Middle Eastern version of the “Live Aid” concert, which raised millions of dollars for starving Africans, former foes in Israel and Jordan reached deep into their pockets Friday to aid Bosnian Muslims.

Jordanians rich and poor in this impoverished kingdom rushed to state television to contribute goods and cash for Bosnian Muslims following a daylong televised fund-raiser that netted more than $6 million.

Men brought bags of sugar and rice, children came with their savings, women gave jewelry and Israeli Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin dialed in to pledge his help.

Phone-in contributions also came in from Iran, Syria, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Sudan, Israel and the Israeli-occupied West Bank.

Donations ranged from $2 to more than $140,000, and in the end presenters said they had $6.3 million plus goods worth an estimated $1.4 million.
