SOME CRUST

I was amused to read Steve Hochman’s take on Ringo Starr’s new Pizza Hut spot (Pop Eye, July 9). Hochman’s typical baby-boomer, hand-wringing claptrap over the perceived demystification of the Beatles strains credibility. While the sullen mop-top was off playing the angry young man and the cute mop-top was busy with “silly love songs” and the introspective mop-top was searching for nirvana, Ringo was taking life (and the perception of Fab Four deification) with a huge grain of salt.

So, Mr. Hochman, instead of upping your daily intake of Prozac, reach for a copy of “A Hard Day’s Night,” pop it in your VCR and see “the lads” (before they started believing their press clippings) laugh at themselves and all the fuss that was Beatlemania.

Just one correction concerning your item on Phil Spector: His last production effort was Yoko Ono’s overlooked 1981 album “Season of Glass.”
