Realtors Give $21,000 to Anti-Gang Program

A Valleywide anti-gang program operated by the Los Angeles Police Department has received a $21,000 grant from the San Fernando Assn. of Realtors.

“Only through the concerted efforts of all citizens, all businesses and all professionals will we be able to loosen the grip gangs have on many of our children,” said Pat A. Zicarelli, the association’s president.

The Jeopardy program, begun in 1990, identifies at-risk youths and provides them with career counseling, as well as such alternatives to gang activity as sports and dance.

According to the LAPD, the program has an 86% success rate. Some of the money will be used to purchase computer software to run the program and keep track of the youths involved, Zicarelli said.
