Joey Buttafuoco pleaded not guilty Friday to a charge of violating his probation.

In a brief hearing, Buttafuoco spoke only two words, “Not guilty,” after being charged with breaching his probation by soliciting sex two months ago from an undercover police officer in Los Angeles. Buttafuoco, 39, pleaded no contest to the California charge.

Judge Jack Mackston released Buttafuoco on his own recognizance and set a conference date for Sept. 7.

If the sex charge is found to have violated his probation, Buttafuoco could go back to jail for up to 3 1/2 years, the term remaining after he served four months for the statutory rape of teen-ager Amy Fisher.
