LETTER TO THE EDITOR : Baldwin Brothers’ Civic Contributions

Over the last several days, The Times has had business articles concerning the Baldwin Co. Much has been said concerning the bankruptcy and the lifestyles of Al and Jim Baldwin and their families. What hasn’t been discussed is the tremendous efforts the Baldwins have expended to improve Orange County.

Al and Jim Baldwin have donated their time and substantial financial resources to benefit various nonprofit and civic/cultural organizations that greatly improve the quality of life for all of Orange County. From generous contributions to environmental education programs and Catholic schools to [their support of] the Performing Arts Center and the homeless, the Baldwins have been committed to improving the lives of the citizens of their county.

Their current misfortunes are regrettable, but I am confident they will overcome their financial difficulties. I only wish that those who criticize in times of hardship would stress the positive aspects of the Baldwin brothers rather than just the negative.
