Safety Components International Inc.: The Costa Mesa manufacturer of automotive air bags and supplier of ordnance and other related defense products reported net income of $1 million, or 24 cents a share, for the first fiscal quarter, compared with $307,000, or 9 cents a share, for the same period in the prior year. Sales for the quarter ended June 30 rose to a record $23.7 million from $8.7 million.
