Health Systems 2nd-Quarter Income Up 18%: The Woodland Hills-based managed-health-care company posted profit from operations of $25.2 million, or 51 cents a share, up from net income of $21.3 million, or 43 cents, in the year-earlier period. Revenue rose 16%, to $660.7 million from $571.1 million. Health Systems International Inc. said lower prices from hospitals and doctors helped trim the portion of premiums consumed by medical costs. The savings have given Health Systems a critical advantage in California’s “crazy, irrationally priced” health care market, Chairman, President and Chief Executive Malik Hasan said. The company said enrollment in its health plans in eight states increased 13% to 1.6 million in the quarter from a year earlier.
