A periodic actor in television’s “Star Trek: The Next Generation” testified Wednesday that a Los Angeles Police Department officer threw him to the ground in the parking garage of his condominium.

Joseph Brance, who filed a federal civil rights lawsuit against the city and two LAPD officers, testified he did nothing to provoke the force used by Officer Stanley Evans.

The actor, who portrayed Security Officer Garvey on the syndicated television series, said he was returning home from buying candy on May 26, 1994, when he noticed a police car in his driveway.

Brance, whose real name is Joseph Baumann, said he approached the car and identified himself as a resident of the complex and was then followed by the two officers as he entered the building.

Evans and his partner, Officer Willie White, say that Brance came to their car and yelled profanities, prompting them to detain them, according to Assistant City Atty. Honey Lewis, who represents the city and the officers.
