Court Frees Kodak From Marketing Restraints: A federal appeals court backed a judge’s decision to free Rochester, N.Y.-based Eastman Kodak Co. from decades-old legal restraints that were designed to keep it from monopolizing the U.S. photographic market. The ruling comes just four days after Tokyo-based Fuji Photo Film, stung by its archrival’s charges of unfair competition in Japan, countered in a blistering report that Kodak, too, unfairly dominates its home turf. The Second Circuit Court of Appeals in New York City upheld a U.S. District judge’s decision in May, 1994, to set aside court decrees dating to 1921 and 1954 aimed at restraining Kodak’s marketing practices.
