Angel Fans Miss All the Good Stuff

Jim Abbott’s warm reception and welcome back as he took the mound on Aug. 3 occurred during the Angels’ pregame radio broadcast. The reception was totally predictable, and it will be remembered as one of the warmest and most memorable moments of the season.

After the fact, it was described by the Angels’ announcer as, “You should have heard the fans’ rising ovation as he walked in from the bullpen.” He was absolutely right. We should have heard it. But since KMPC only occasionally interrupts the stream (seemingly between every other pitch) of product commercials or plugs for in-your-face talk radio to broadcast part of the baseball game, it came as no surprise that we didn’t hear it.

For a number of years, the Gene Autry family (especially Jackie of late) has been blamed for the ills of the Angels.
