Share

A Long Beach man accused of killing his two sons on a San Pedro beach was charged Tuesday with two counts of murder with special circumstance allegations of multiple murder that could lead to the death penalty.

Robert Blahnik, 34, remained at Harbor-UCLA Medical Center on Tuesday, recovering from an apparently self-inflicted gunshot. He allegedly shot his two young sons, Ryan, 6, and Michael, 4, with a handgun about 4:30 p.m. Sunday.

Deputy Dist. Atty. Ronald Geltz said Blahnik’s condition has improved and that it appeared Blahnik would survive his wounds. Blahnik’s arraignment, the prosecutor said, will be scheduled when he has recovered.

Friends and relatives have said Blahnik, a crane operator, had been depressed about work and other responsibilities in recent months.
