Software: Reflecting a new focus on entertainment and a recent strategic about-face, Sony Electronic Publishing Co. on Thursday was officially renamed Sony Interactive Entertainment. The Sony Corp. subsidiary, originally commissioned to develop interactive products for play on a range of computer and video game platforms, abruptly canceled projects this past spring that had been designated for game machines other than its own Playstation, to be introduced next month in the United States. Olaf Olafsson remains president of the unit. Its Foster City, Calif.-based Sony Imagesoft division is now divided into Sony Interactive Studios America, headed by Kelly Flock, and Sony Interactive PC Software America, headed by Ray Sangster. Sony’s U.K.-based entertainment software unit, Sony Psygnosis, has been renamed Sony Interactive Europe. Jonathan Ellis is the joint managing director of the unit, and Sangster reports to him.
