But Will It Outsell Chow Mein?

Domino’s Pizza Inc., reaching for a bigger slice of the market outside the United States, now delivers in China.

Domino’s opened its first store in China three weeks ago in Shenzhen in Guangdong province. The store has sold about 2,000 pizzas a week, more than double the average number for a U.S. store, at about $6 apiece.

The store, along with a second planned for China later this year, is part of the Ann Arbor, Mich.-based company’s effort to open five restaurants a week outside the United States.

The biggest seller so far in China is the seafood pizza, which includes shrimp and scallops. The second-favorite is the American Combo, which includes pepperoni--a favorite topping at all Domino’s restaurants.

The Shenzhen store is owned by PizzaVest Fastfood Ltd., a China-based company. A related company owns the right to develop Domino’s restaurants in 11 Asian countries.
