Barron Matalon; Hollywood Hairdresser

Barron Matalon, 47, Hollywood hairdresser whose clients included Jane Fonda, Debra Winger, Madeleine Stowe and Rosemary Clooney. Matalon won national attention in 1986 when he created a chin-length modern shag cut for Fonda to model at the Academy Awards. He nicknamed the revisited style “the new ‘Klute’ ” after one of the actress’s films, and described it as an updated version of the 1960s layered look. He also gave the short cut to Fonda’s daughter Vanessa Vadim. Matalon remained a stylist to Fonda over many years, occasionally changing her look dramatically. In 1993 he styled her hair into a thick blond braid for the Hollywood Legacy Awards--and her yoga video. In addition to actresses, Matalon also styled hair for Alan Thicke, Al Jarreau and William Katt, among others.
