Toll at 340 in India’s Worst Railway Crash

FIROZABAD, India —
Rescuers using blowtorches struggled Monday to cut through the twisted metal of a train car where mangled bodies lay trapped more than 36 hours after India’s worst rail crash killed at least 340 people.
Heavy-duty cranes lifted the debris of the Kalindi Express, struck from behind Sunday after it hit a cow and was forced to halt near Firozabad railway station, about 135 miles southeast of New Delhi. The following train, the Puroshottam Express, plunged into it at 60 m.p.h.
