Shortsighted Decision to Close Health Clinics
- Share via
* I am ashamed to live in Los Angeles, and every legislator who had a hand in the decision to close 28 health centers should be ashamed as well.
Are people and politicians so afraid of taxes and obsessed with crime that we can’t afford to fund basic health care for the people of Los Angeles? Not only is this decision uncaring, but it is shortsighted! This will cost more money in the long run in crowded emergency rooms, higher hospitalization costs, filled neonatal intensive care units, etc. It will affect all of us, not just those who can’t afford health care. Children won’t be immunized, prenatal care will be rare, communicable diseases will spread faster and emergency services will be harder to get. Our priorities are appalling and the consequences will be as well.
