The test facility used by the Pacific Rocket Society (“The New Space Race,” Aug. 22) is in fact owned by another amateur group, the Reaction Research Society. The RRS has owned the Mojave Test Area for about 40 years.

While we do fly rockets, there is more emphasis on the flight as a validation of our work than as an end in itself.

What we share is the desire to learn the driving issues behind rocketry. Many of us also dream of getting into “the business” one day. But we intend to do it by mixing good engineering practices with practical cost-consciousness.
