Glaxo Wellcome Extends Benefits to Gay Partners: The drug maker based in Research Triangle Park, N.C., said medical and dental coverage will be provided for the live-in companions of its gay and lesbian employees. “This is just one more element in our benefits package that [recognizes] diversity in the work force and will help us attract and retain quality people,” company spokeswoman Nancy Pekarek said. She said the company is offering the benefits, effective next year, in response to requests from its workers. Glaxo Wellcome makes AZT, the world’s leading AIDS medication. AIDS activists serving on a company advisory panel had been urging the move.
