FCC Sets Schedule to Auction an Array of Airwaves: The Federal Communications Commission has picked November to begin auctioning off a block of airwaves reserved for the growing wireless sector of the cable TV industry. The auction of the multichannel Multipoint Distribution Service licenses, commonly referred to as “wireless cable,” will be the nation’s first, FCC Chairman Reed Hundt said. Hundt also laid out the schedules for several other spectrum auctions the agency plans to hold in the next several months. Those include licenses to provide two-way voice and data communications and interactive video services.
