Share

Half a million people are expected for the 23rd Orange International Street Fair, which continues today and Sunday.

The annual event, which features ethnic foods, music, stage performances and children’s events, raises thousands of dollars for nonprofit groups chosen by a 25-member street fair committee.

Nearly 70 craft vendors this year will be selling a variety of handmade items for children, as well as jewelry and art for adults.

Ten stages will feature performances, including blues, country and oldies music, and a special event this year, the Dragon Dancers from Shikoku, Japan.

Each year the fair committee picks a culture to highlight. Official dignitaries from Shikoku, one of Japan’s four principal islands, will be on hand. Fair-goers will have the chance to see Japanese drummers, dancers and a parade.

Other featured cultures and foods will be Arabic, Native American, Irish, Greek, Swiss, Dutch, German, Norwegian, Italian, Mexican and Polynesian.

A children’s village at the center of the fair will have entertainment.

The central area of the fair is at Chapman Avenue and Glassell Street. Hours today and Sunday are 10 a.m. to 10 p.m.
