Truck Rig Headed for On-Ramp Kills Anaheim Bicyclist

A 24-year-old woman was killed Friday by a truck rig when she rode her bicycle across a freeway on-ramp, officials said.

Shortly before 1:30 p.m., Julie Ann Malvitz of Anaheim was traveling north on Euclid Street to the right of the big rig, which had no trailer.

When the signal at the eastbound Riverside Freeway on-ramp turned green, the 42-year-old Fullerton truck driver made a right turn toward the on-ramp as Malvitz was passing through the crosswalk, California Highway Patrol officials said.

“She was in his blind spot,” CHP Officer Amador Portillo said. “He didn’t see her and he struck her on the left side, causing the bicyclist to fall down.”

The truck driver apparently didn’t see or feel the collision and ran over her.

The truck driver was not cited and the accident remains under investigation, officials said.
