Micropolis Corp. Elects J. Larry Smart Chairman

Chatsworth-based Micropolis Corp. announced that J. Larry Smart has been elected chairman, replacing Stuart P. Mabon, who has resigned from the board.

Smart is also president and chief executive of the company.

Mabon was a founder of Micropolis, which started in 1976 as a maker of floppy disk drives and became a leading designer and manufacturer of disk drives and information-storage and video systems.

Eltron International Inc. has named Chief Operating Officer Hugh Gagnier to the additional post of president. Gagnier will be responsible for managing printer operations for the Simi Valley-based maker of office machines and pre-packaged software.

Crown Books Inc. has named Douglas M. West assistant vice president and general manager for the West Coast. He will be based in Garden Grove.

West previously was regional director of operations and music for Blockbuster Entertainment Corp.

West succeeds Steven Hall, who has resigned to pursue other interests. West will oversee operations of 98 Crown Book stores in California and Washington state.

William Broesamle has been named director of two MBA programs at UCLA’s Anderson Graduate School of Management. He will oversee the Executive and Fully Employed MBA programs, designed for working professionals.

Broesamle was an administrator at UCLA from 1967 to 1982. In 1982, he became the first president and chief executive of the Graduate Management Admissions Council, a nonprofit organization that provides services to graduate management schools.
