VW Labor Unrest Grows: Union IG Metall said about 70,000 workers participated in brief strikes at all of VW’s six plants in Germany before month-long labor talks were to resume today. The walkouts were the most widespread in an intensifying dispute that, according to Volkswagen, has cost the company $89 million in lost sales and delayed production. Talks have been bogged down over the union’s demand that members get higher wages and job security at a time when Volkswagen is asking workers to put in overtime with only small increases in extra overtime pay. VW says it needs concessions from its work force to remain competitive.
