Share

San Jose State Coach John Ralston, whose team meets USC Saturday in the Coliseum, indicated Tuesday that he’ll feel as if he’s facing an NFL team.

“A pro scout came by our practice last week and told me USC has 12 pro prospects, more than any other school in the country,” Ralston said.

USC Coach John Robinson said two backup players, sophomore defensive tackle Cedric Jefferson and freshman guard David Pratchard, wouldn’t play in the opener.

Jefferson has a hairline crack in a neck vertebra, and Pratchard has a sprained ankle.

Both Robinson and Tommy Trojan are now in their 60s.

The coach turned 60 July 25 and the seven-foot bronze statue of Tommy Trojan, which stands in front of Bovard Auditorium, turned 65 earlier this year.

Six USC opponents lost their openers Saturday--San Jose State, Houston, Arizona State, Cal, Washington State and Notre Dame.
