Ventura native Jean B. Holmes died Tuesday in a Ventura convalescent hospital after a brief illness. She was 82.
Holmes, who was born Sept. 10, 1912, was a retired registered nurse. In the 1940s, she spent two years as a frontier nurse and midwife in Kentucky, riding horseback in rural areas to deliver babies.
She was a longtime member of the First Assembly of God Church of Ventura and had once been in charge of the women’s ministries of the church. She also enjoyed knitting, sewing, embroidery and painting.
Holmes is survived by her husband, Everett Holmes of Ventura; her sister, Rena Battles of Morro Bay, and two nieces.
Services will be at 10 a.m. today at Ted Mayr Funeral Home in Ventura. The Rev. Tony Cervero of the First Assembly of God Church of Ventura will officiate. Burial will follow at Ivy Lawn Cemetery of Ventura.
