TWA Commuter Airline to Close: The airline plans to replace its struggling East Coast commuter airline in Nov. 6 with the company that has been flying commuter routes to and from its St. Louis hub. Trans World Airlines restructured its Trans World Express unit last year, but could not make it pay. The company’s 330 employees will be laid off, although they may apply for jobs at Trans States Airlines. Trans States will take over flying passengers from eight Eastern cities to link up with TWA flights at New York’s JFK International Airport, TWA said. Trans States Airlines, which is independently owned, already feeds passengers from 30 Midwest cities to its Lambert Airport hub in St. Louis.
