LETTER FROM THE EDITOR

Share

Our city editor, Bill Overend, came to Ventura County when his son was just a toddler. Bill moved from Los Angeles because he thought this would be a better place to raise the apple of his eye.

Reporter Daryl Kelley moved his two daughters here from Orange County with the same idea in mind.

It might be the reason you moved your family to Ventura County, or why you have chosen to stay here. Talk to any parent for any amount of time, and you hear the same refrain: “We think this is a good place to raise our kids.”

Bill, Daryl and a team of Times reporters and photographers have spent months preparing a special report that puts this belief to the test: Does Ventura County deliver on its promise to be a paradise for kids and their families?

Their six-part report, “Kids: Family Life in Ventura County,” begins Sunday.

It is backed by an exclusive Times Poll that reveals what parents and their children say about everything from local schools to recreation to morality.

Watch for this engaging and insightful series. And let me know what you think. Drop me a note at 93 S. Chestnut St., Ventura, Calif. 93001. Or e-mail me on TimesLink/Prodigy at GYUC65F.
